Kathryn Llamas Communications and Marketing
Network
(KL Comm)
was established in
1994 as an outlet for Kathy Llamas' creative ideas. At that
time, she had over 10 years experience in broadcasting,
advertising, marketing, media sales and broadcast management
under her belt. She was always helping people market their
products and services, write commercial copy, produce shows,
offer business and marketing advice. Eventually, it led to
the creation of her own communications and marketing
company.
History
At
the onset, KLComm, was primarily a
communications and marketing company engaged in Product
Development, International Marketing, Public Relations, and
the development, production, and implementation of
multimedia products (programs, sites, commercials,
infomercials, documentaries) for Radio, Television, Print
and the Internet.
Among the projects KLComm had undertaken at the
beginning were the now-famous broadcasts of infomercials
over national television and radio in the United States and
which have made the phrase "Have your credit card ready.
Operators are standing by" very popular.
KLComm produced infomercials for
products ranging from cookware, golf accesories, kitchen
gadgets, ,jewelry, vitamins, pet products...you name it.
Then there were the service professions that came into the
picture....the lawyers, the accountants, contractors,
computer specialists...Just about any industry was doing
infomercials.
Kathy Llamas/KLComm also did New
Business Development for Interactive Technologies Inc. which
produced television programs, Rebate TV and and a shopping
program called Deals, Deals, Deals at Universal
Studios, Florida.
Kathy's knowledge of media in general, led
to the creation of a nationally-distributed four-color
magazine called Orient Magazine, where she was a
founding partner and served as its Associate Publisher and
Vice President of Sales and Marketing. With no budget, she
was able to get national distribution and landed such noted
advertisers as Walt Disney, AT&T, Sprint, BellSouth
Mobility and a host of other major advertisers.
In
1995, KLComm was hired by the
Mex Group as a broadast management
consultant to develop new business for 2 fledgling AM
stations in Central Florida. To concentrate on what was to
be one of the biggest challenges in her career, she left the
print industry to focus on her true passion...Broadcasting.
Later, KLComm was also hired by
J&V Communications to handle their
three (3) Spanish radio stations in Central Florida.
Kathy Llamas/KLComm developed and
produced radio programs to create new revenue streams for
the radio stations. Among the programs she produced were
Profiles (which was also a weekly
television show), Infoline,
The Business Life
Series, Shop-at-Home
Radio, Amor
Eterno, Viva Amor,
Romance con Catalina and the now
internationally known, PhilMusic
Radio.
The
programs were all highly successful and it was time to take
the radio stations to the next level of profitability. It
was then that the reality dawned on Kathy and the management
of the radio stations. How could we transcend the geographic
boundaries of local radio stations and compete with the
larger stations?
The answer was to broadcast on the internet. In 1995,
WTRR was among the first radio
stations in Florida to broadcast worldwide on the internet.
The first programs broadcast were in English, followed by
the highly successful Spanish programming and then the
creation of PhilMusic Radio, a two-hour program
featuring Filipino music. Needless to say,
WTRR was ranked 6th overall in the
nation for its internet listenership by Arbitron, a company which rates radio
stations, beating broadcast giants like ABC and CBS.
KLComm's
Expansion
With the expansion of PhilMusic
Radio and the launching of PhilRadio
InternationaI in 1998, KLComm expanded its focus
to include more business and media development on the
Internet. With the creation of the 24 hour audio stream for
PhilRadio International, KLComm, in partnership with
the Mex Group, began to build web sites
incorporating audio and video media components within the
sites allowing companies to add audio and video streams on
their sites. In effect, it is like providing companies who
otherwise cannot afford to own a radio station, their own
radio station on the Internet.
Kathy Llamas also began producing internet
shows for outside entities such as Looksmart
Radio, which was a subsidiary of the popular
search engine, Looksmart Ltd., a public company based in
San Francisco, CA. As producer for Looksmart
Radio, she wrote the shows, booked guests, and
interviewed celebrities on the air for worldwide
broadcast.
Today, KL Comm also acts a
Publicist for businesses, individuals and entertainers. As a
freelance writer, Kathy Llamas writes for several publications both
offline and online. With her background in all forms of
media and marketing, she is able to provide clients of
KL
Comm
with maximum exposure on a local, national and international
level.
KL Comm also broadened its service
base to include a Business Resource Center. The center was
incorporated to assist businesses in their basic needs
ranging from writing business plans, securing financing,
and establishing marketing and advertising plans.
